Why jet the main line instead of just snaking it?

A cable machine punches a hole through the clog and restores flow — but the pipe wall is still coated with grease, scale, root mat, and sludge. The line clogs again, often within months. Hydro jetting the main line uses 4,000+ PSI water to scour the entire inside diameter of the pipe. The line is actually clean, not just flowing.

  • Truck-mounted jetters (4,000+ PSI, 18+ GPM)
  • Pre-camera so we know the pipe before we jet
  • Root-cutting, penetrating & flusher nozzles on the truck
  • Pressure tuned to cast iron, clay, PVC or Orangeburg
  • Post-camera verification — you see the result
  • Same-day dispatch for clogged main line backups

Main Line Jetting FAQs

What is main line jetting?
Main line jetting (also called hydro jetting the main line, or jetting the main) is using a truck-mounted high-pressure water jetter — 4,000+ PSI at 18+ GPM — to scour the inside of the main sewer line that runs from your house to the street. The jet removes grease, scale, soft roots, and sludge that cabling alone leaves behind.
Hydro jetting main line vs snaking — which do I need?
Snaking punches a hole through a clog so flow resumes. Main line jetting actually cleans the pipe wall and restores the line to near-original diameter. For a one-off clog, snaking is fine. For recurring main line backups, grease, scale, or roots, you want jetting.
How much does it cost to jet a main line in Greater Boston?
Residential main line jetting typically runs $450–$900 depending on length, access, and severity. That includes pre-camera inspection to confirm pipe condition and post-camera to verify the line is clean. We give you a flat written price before any work starts.
Can hydro jetting the main line damage old cast iron pipe?
Not when the operator cameras first and tunes pressure to the pipe. Sound cast iron handles full residential jetting pressure. Cracked, separated, or Orangeburg pipe will not — and we tell you that before we jet, not after. Always camera first.
How often should I jet my main sewer line?
Restaurants and grease-heavy buildings: every 3–12 months. Older homes with cast iron, mature trees, or recurring slow drains: every 1–2 years as preventative maintenance. Most single-family homes don't need scheduled jetting until the camera shows scale, roots, or buildup.
Is sewer main line cleaning the same as drain cleaning?
Not quite. 'Drain cleaning' usually means a fixture or branch line — sink, tub, toilet. 'Sewer main line cleaning' is the larger line that takes everything from the house to the street tap or septic. That's the line that, when it fails, sends water back into the basement.
